At The Walsall Wheelbarrow Company Ltd, our commitment to a more sustainable, efficient, and future-ready business has taken a huge leap forward. Across our Wednesfield factory, work is well underway on one of our most significant environmental investments to date: the installation of 665 solar panels, capable of generating an impressive 352 kilowatts of clean, renewable energy.
This rooftop transformation—delivered in partnership with the fantastic team at SRC North West Ltd—marks a defining moment in our journey toward Net Zero by 2030. The first batch of panels is already live and generating electricity, and with all eight systems now in place, we are officially producing our own solar power. It’s a proud milestone for our business, our people, and our customers, demonstrating our proactive approach to supporting a low-carbon economy. Alongside the solar rollout, we are nearing completion of our major wall cladding project across all eight units on site. With the main gable cladding installed and only the final trims to go, we’re close to handing over this phase in full—another investment that improves efficiency, durability, and the long-term resilience of our operations.
These developments reflect more than infrastructure upgrades—they represent our ongoing promise to innovate, evolve, and lead. As the UK’s only wheelbarrow manufacturer, we take our responsibility seriously. Being proudly British-made means building not just for today, but for generations to come, and now with a
little extra help from the sun, we’re doing exactly that. We’re also focused on how these improvements benefit our customers directly. Lower energy consumption, greater production resilience, and a significantly
reduced carbon footprint mean we can continue delivering high-quality, British-made products with even greater efficiency and environmental responsibility. Every investment we make—from renewable power to infrastructure upgrades— ensures we remain competitive, future-proofed, and aligned with the needs of a
greener economy.
We’re delighted with the progress so far and grateful to everyone involved, especially Ryan Green and the team at SRC North West Ltd. Here’s to a stronger, greener, more sustainable future.
